Black Berkey Primer

The Black Berkey primer allows you to easily prime Black Berkey filters when you are away from the water pressure from faucets (taps) and hose connections or if you have a sink or space that is too small or inconvenient for priming your Black Berkey filters.

Features:

  • Designed for use with Black Berkey Filters (Purification Elements) only
    Hand-powered
  • Uses air instead of water pressure to clean or purge a Black Berkey element (cleaning the proprietary pores of the compressed carbon filter wall)
  • Made in the USA

What the Black Berkey Primer Does

Priming a Black Berkey filter involves saturating the filter with water prior to its use so it can filter and provide clean water.

The Black Berkey Primer purges (or back-flushes) Black Berkey Elements using air instead of water to clean the proprietary pores of the compressed carbon filter wall.

Specifically, it (1) clears the pores of debris that has accumulated with regular use and (2) reduces the amount of time and effort required to dry Black Berkey filters prior to storage.

How does the Black Berkey Primer work?

The Black Berkey Primer should be attached to a Black Berkey filter which is fully immersed in water.  The Black Berkey Primer creates a basic pressure gradient which draws water into the centre of each Black Berkey Element. Once the Black Berkey filter is completely saturated with water, the water passes through the Black Berkey Primer and squirts out of the opposite end.

Why do I need a Black Berkey Primer?

For Berkey owners, having a Black Berkey primer on  hand, can make it easier to prime a Black Berkey filter in an emergency, tight space (like a small sink in a new house) or off-the-grid situations, thereby ensuring you’ll have clean water when you need it.

Black Berkey Primer Product Care

A Black Berkey Primer can be cleaned with a dilution of natural cleaning products, or mild soap and warm water. Components should be thoroughly rinsed and allowed to air dry prior to storage in a cool, dark, and dry place. Do not expose to direct sunlight as UV light will breakdown the product. Do not use in a microwave.
